Gorgeous, fun & interesting holidays with Dave Best

8 Days: 2 June-9 June, 2011

Join Dave Best on a small-group guided walking holiday in the gently undulating hills of southern Tuscany.

The Val d’Orcia lies at the heart of this landscape, its ancient slopes crowned by enchanting medieval towns and picturesque villages. On this trip, explore some of the most beautiful towns and villages in the region, including Montalcino, a classic hill-town completely surrounded by a fortified wall; Pienza, known for its outstanding Renaissance architecture; and Montepulciano, also surrounded by an impressive wall and full of interesting nooks and crannies. Spend a morning in the lovely city of Siena, with its great medieval square (Il Campo) crowned by the soaring dome of the Duomo.

For gastronomes, this region boasts a long tradition of winemaking, including the celebrated Brunello and the rich, full-bodied Vino Nobile of Montepulciano. This visit includes the chance to sample a variety of fine wines as well as enjoying traditional fare employing the freshest of local ingredients.

Best Travels focuses on providing walking holidays for small groups of people who wish to visit some of the most beautiful areas on the planet, where there is also much to see and learn of cultural and historical interest.

Dave Best, who founded Best Travels and who has been managing and leading such holidays for 16 years, is dedicated to providing these gorgeous, fun and interesting holidays.

Although the company is Australian-based, currently all the holidays offered are in Africa, Asia and Europe, and each year different destinations are added to the repertoire. This keeps Dave perennially on his toes and as many of the participants come back for more, it’s always a challenge to keep coming up with holidays to retain their interest and support.

Local guides and experts are sometimes employed for sections of the tours. After all, while speaking French is one thing, the Turkish or Bhutanese languages provide more of a challenge!
